Electrical in London

Our electricians diagnose and repair faults such as tripped breakers, overloaded circuits, faulty wiring, burning smells from outlets and lights that flicker or burn out quickly.

We install and replace consumer units, and issue certification for the work we carry out.

TODO(Roy): confirm the electrical registration body (NICEIC or NAPIT) and number to show here.

Choosing the right electrical enquiry

A dead socket, an intermittent light and a circuit that repeatedly trips need different investigations. Tell us what stopped working, which rooms are affected, whether other circuits still work and when the issue started. Do not remove covers or attempt repairs to diagnose a fault for an enquiry.

For planned work, describe the change you want rather than guessing the required wiring or consumer-unit parts. Photos of the room and accessible equipment labels can help establish the scope. An electrician must assess the installation and explain the appropriate work before a quote is agreed.

Faults, warning signs and immediate safety

A burning smell, visible damage, sparks or water close to electrical fittings calls for caution. Keep people clear of the affected area and avoid using the equipment. If there is immediate danger, call the emergency services; do not touch wet fittings, exposed wiring or the inside of the consumer unit.

If the issue is not an immediate danger, give us the property type, the affected area and any relevant history, such as recent building work or water ingress. We can use those details to determine the right assessment. The cause and repair cannot be established safely from a symptom alone.

Planning alterations and consumer-unit work

A request for new outlets, lighting or a consumer-unit change should include where the work is needed and how the space is used. Access to existing wiring, the condition of circuits and the amount of testing required can all change the proposed scope. Parts and any making good should be clear in the written quote.

Some electrical work may require notification and appropriate certification. The electrician assessing the installation should explain what applies to the specific job and what documentation will be provided. We do not claim membership of an electrical registration scheme or publish a scheme number until it is confirmed.

Getting an assessment and clear quote

Send the postcode, property type and a short account of the fault or planned work. Let us know about tenant access, business opening hours or a previous inspection report where relevant. For portable-appliance checks or an EICR, state the number of items or the property layout so the enquiry goes to the appropriate service.

A first visit may be for fault-finding rather than a completed repair. If further work or parts are needed, ask for the findings, proposed remedy and price to be confirmed before proceeding. An EICR is a separate inspection of the fixed installation, not a substitute for investigating an active fault.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an EICR?

Landlords in England must have an EICR at least every 5 years and give a copy to tenants. Homeowners are advised to have one every 10 years or when buying a property.

How long does a fuse box replacement take?

Usually half a day to a day, including testing and certification.

What details help with an intermittent electrical fault?

Note which circuit or room is affected, what was in use at the time and whether the fault repeats. Do not reproduce a dangerous fault deliberately; an electrician needs to investigate it safely.

Can you quote for additional sockets from a photo?

Photos and a location plan help start an enquiry, but wiring condition and access may need to be checked before the scope and quote can be confirmed.

Is a consumer-unit replacement the answer to a tripping circuit?

Not necessarily. The fault could be elsewhere in a circuit or connected equipment. Ask for fault-finding before agreeing to replacement work.

What should I do if water is near a socket?

Keep clear and do not touch the socket, appliance or wet electrical fittings. If there is immediate danger, contact the emergency services; arrange for the source of water and electrical hazard to be assessed.

Will I receive paperwork for electrical alterations?

Ask at quotation stage what testing, certification and any notification apply to the specific work. The documentation depends on the installation and agreed scope.
